Supported Employment Program

Offers Supported employment, a program for people experiencing difficulties finding and/or maintaining employment.

We provide community integrated employment services which involve individualized traing and support for job readiness.

Maintenance of employment skills is ensured by forming partnerships with employers, and delivering follow-up services after employment is secured. Our commitment is LONG TERM FOLLOW-UP after employment has been established.

The Employment Concept

Vocational Counselling is offered to participants on an ongoing basis.

We assist in finding employment for program participants.

Interests and abilities of prospective employees are matched with needs of employers.

Training on the job, which is provided by Touchwood Park Supported Employmcnt Counsellors can be a money saver to employers.

Group Study Sessions are offered on a weekly basis to develop peer support to individuals who are already employed, and to teach pre-vocational skills to participants who wish to find jobs in the community.

COR Enterprises Inc.

COR Enterprises Inc. is a vocational training center for the developmentally challanged adults.

We provide training, counselling & skill development through the manufacture of wooden children's & doll furniture, lawn furniture and decor, craft items, baby quilts, as well as janitorial and kitchen programs.

COR also provides contract services to businesses; such as packaging collating, woodworking & janitorial services.

Brandon Community Options Inc.

Brandon Community Options Inc. is a non-profit community agency committed to improving the quality of life for people who have been described as having a mental handicap by providing them with a home and a life in'their community.

Community living begins with the basics. Brandon Community Options Inc. believes that by supporting the individual to be fully integrated and accepted as a valuable memebr of society is paramount to insuring quality of life. Living in an ordinary house in the neighborhood is the first step.

Our goal is to provide residential option. Some people live in group homes and others live semi-dependently in apartments with one or two roommates. Our homes are typical of the neighborhood in which they are located. The people living in the homes have become another family living in the community.

What can the community do for Brandon Community Options Inc. and its residents?

  1. Accept and get to know the people. Any involvement, either in the community or in the home is appreciated and encouragted.
  2.  Find a way to contribute financialIy or otherwise: perhaps a ride to church or a weekend at the lake?

Frontier Trading Company

Life Skills Services

Frontier's life skill program offers the opportunity for all people to be independent and active in their community. The service is available to people who otherwise might have trouble accessing options like banking, driver training, grocery shopping and social activities.

Frontier has two life skills workers that work with participants and their support network to ensure that a high quality of life style is being maintained.

Referrals

Frontier accepts self referrals as well as referrals from funding agents. Walk ins are welcome to come in, get help with the paperwork and use us as a resource agency to discover what services would be most helpful to them.

Training Store and Retail

Frontier's endeavors in the retail field have been a huge success. Clerks receive full one-onone training.. Job coached are ready to find employment in this field for clients.

The clerks that are trained in the store receive full one on one training including seminars on customer service and how to do window dressings.

The Frontier clients and staff have been pleased with the training provided as it has helped to increase confidence and social interaction.

Community Mental Health Services

Who We Are

The Community Mental Health Program is a health service of the Brandon Regional Health Authourity that provides assessment and counselling for voluntary clients. There is no cost for this service.

Although we do help to address urgent situations, people with emergengy mental health and psychiatric circumstances should present themselves to the Hospital Emergency for assistance.

Who is Eligible

  • Anyone age l8 years and older
  • Resident of Brandon RHA area
  • Mental or emotional related problems such as Depression,Anxiety, Stress and Coping, and Adjustment Difficulties.

Family Services & Consumer Affairs

The Vocational Rehabilitation Program assists eligible adults with a disability to pursue and secure gainful employment, by providing a range of vocational training, education and support services.

The objectives of the Vocational Rehabilitation Program are:

  • to provide vocational rehabilitation services to adults with a disability, to enhance their independence and ability to contribute socially and economically through employment in the competitive labour force.
  • to assist adults with a mental, physical, psychiatric or learning disability to access the competitive work force through the provision of assessment, training, education and support services.

To obtain Vocational Rehabilitation services, individualized vocational training plans are submitted to Community Service Delivery staff responsible for Vocational Rehabilitation. Based on these plans, funds are approved to enable individuals to access vocational training services.

Kelchris Inc. – Virden

Kelchris Inc. is based upon the recognition of an individual's uniqueness as a person and his/her need for meaningful creative activity, fellowship and privacy.

The group also recognizes the right to be consulted and to exercise choice in matters affecting an individual's health and welfare and to meet and fulfill their physical and social needs. Additionally, Kelchris works to enhance an individual's abilities and promote his/her independence while providing the degree of support needed.

History

Kelchris Inc. became an agency as of February 14, 2000. They are a not-for-profit agency and receive funding from the Government of Manitoba. Kelchris operates two homes for adults with developmental disabilities which provide basic living skills, creative activity, fellowship and privacy for the individuals they serve.
